Can anyone help in showing a diagram of a diy overflow box or are there any commercially available ones?

I don't have a diagram of one but I'll keep you posted if I do see one.
I'll assume you mean a hang-on overflow box and don't intend to drill glass. CPR makes hang-on acrylic overflow boxes. They work by siphon since there is no drilling involved. The down side is that it requires a powerhead with a venturi valve to expel any air trapped in it that might break the siphon.
If you want to make a proper overflow then it's simply a partition in your tank with a hole in the bottom. Of course this involves drilling. I've also seen overflows which are made of large PVC pipes instead of a glass chamber.

Yes, I meant a hang-on overflow box. Can't do any drilling now. I wanted to beef up my 2 feet tank's filteration. Currently only have a canister filter.
What does CPR stand's for and where are they located?

    WS,
If you have a cannister filter you can consider using the Eheim surface extractor. I think it's quite sufficient for a 2 foot tank.
CPR is a name of an Acrylic Company in US. They specialise in manufacturing overflows, sumps and skimmers. Their most famous product is the CPR Bak Pak hang-on-the-back skimmer.
Note that the hang-on overflows are more suited for sump applications than cannisters. Honestly, I'll go with the Eheim Surface Extractor since it is specially for cannisters.
