I'm thinking of tying fissiden to mesh to act as a foreground floor...has anyone else tried it before? if anyone has pics as to how it'd turn out i'd greatly appreciate it =)

If you have the chance go visit Bioplast, they have a fissiden tank. It was lovely. Try looking for the picture at the killie forum.

wow your fissiden floor looks amazing =) i just spent 2 hours tying mine onto the wire mesh, and it's just a long strip at the front of my tank (the rest is e tenellus)...i'm amazed at the patience of you guys who can lay out so many fronts (i laid them out leaf by leaf) on such big pieces of mesh!

pity i'm running a low tech tank with only 2wpg, no ferts and no co2...gonna take me probably half a year to reach the kind of growth seen in that picture

Actually you'll be amazed... mine grew quite a lot in just a month and a half... more than doubled when i first tied it... just make sure you got cold temperatures...

my temperatures aren't too high...but with just 2wpg lights and no co2 i think growth will probably go real slow

Guess there's alot of constant tender loving care to be given to fissiden to make it as pretty as it is. Does it float and need to be re-tie again or would upon the 1st mesh, it would spread across the lawn?

Hadn't been sucessful with it after numerous tries. But after seeing uorme99 beautifull pics, am inspired again...

    Thank you illumnae and crystalreds.
This is my fissidens tank - only fissidens fontanus (US fissidens) and some flame moss on wood on the right side of the tank. It is not algea free and i am still learning to balance up the tank on that. Wish you both all the best!

    Do wish to try again....

May you please advise the parameters needed to cultivate such beautiful layout? I treated it like moss but failed.... could cold temperature be the x-factor?

I'm growing them fine at 27-28C. Bushy as well. This fissidens is the fastest compared to the other 4 I've tried.
You can get an inch growth in perhaps 3 months? Very nice until you get some hair algae tangled in it.

I bleached it till it was almost all gone but the fissidens survived. Amazing comeback. I actually harvest from the orginal bleached areas to plant elsewhere.

The only thing is it dosn't look good in photos. Looks like algae in wide shots.
