Quite alot of talk on APP, this is how it looks like as a foreground plant. To maintain it long term, its really... difficult. They grow too fast!

    "They grow too fast!"

Totally agreed! So much so that they have to overlap each other so much that their initial root hold is not enough to hold the whole plant down. But it is a beautiful foreground place I must admit ^_^

totally agreed that they grow too fast. in 1 month time, it has fully covered my spiky moss on mesh that was already 3 to 4cm thick. very beautiful if you have them as a lawn but must really find time to maintain (trim) them.

those APP on my avatar, i just love them.

Perhaps will try an app tank sometime soon. Just App and rocks instead of glosso.

that's a good idea. a 1ft cube APP tank perhaps. please share with us your progress and pictures.

saw some APP at a LFS previously. it was like at least 1 to 1.5ft high. tall and bushy on the left side of the tank. i was quite impressed that the roots were quite strong and intact.

How do you plant them in the initial stage? They doesn't seem to be easily rooted by hand/pincer

Plant them in small strands one at a time. They root easier to the gravel that way. Gravel around 2-3cm in depth is sufficient.

I think they grow 'too fast' when injected with Co2. Mine is dosed with excel and they dont grow too fast... just nice. My advice is use Co2 for it to cover the substrate enough for 'carpet effect' initially then remove Co2 and just substitute with flourish excel.

My APP floats soon after I planted them in. Am I using the wrong soil?

What I did was to insert the stem all the way into the soil till only the top 2 leaves are seen. Lots of time and patience needed. I was using ADA soil then.

    1. you need to plant them in small strand
    2. try to plant them as deep as possible as they will grow tall very soon
    3. if your substrate is very thick like 4 to 5 inches, insert them 2 to 2.5 inches deep (50%) is enough.
    4. if it uproots easily, try planting them slightly slanted.

    hope this helps.

Hi, i was wondering how much watt per gallon you guys used to grow APP into a lawn of carpet. I'm currently using a 3 tube T5 lighting. Also, what's the bubble per second usually use? I have problem with plants growing around 2 bubble per second so wondering if i use APP will survive or not.
