    Hi all.

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could help explain why there is a layer of oil/dust on the surface of my still water features? I have plants and fish in them. As for my tanks with running water, I do not have this problem.

Would appreciate any form of suggestion/explanation (although please try to keep it simple as I am relatively new to this forum)

    Many thanks in advance!

It is normal, the oil/protein was produce by plants during photosinteshis. You can add fish like guppy, black molly or other surface dweller. They will eat the oil.

If you use filter, I assume you are not because you said still water features, you can add surface skimmer. Running water, depending how strong it is, will also help mix the oil/protein with water.

    Thanks for replying Robert!

    Bro,

At times some food will produce oil too...
Or when your hands goes into the tank for some things that you are doing...
