    Do you cut and replant the top, and uproot the bottom?
    Or do u leave the bottom alone?

    I know this sounds absurd, but does anyone know how to keep each rung of its leaves from growing too far apart.

    very strong light does the trick
    as for replanting, remove the bottom
    if not you'll have a nightmare when 3~4 shoots grow out from it, and you'll have a gigantic bush
    unless you're intending to propagate it, of course

    Mine is a 2ft tank with a 36W PL.
    I put the plant directly under the light, is this enuff?

    i dunno
    just grow it and see?
    if it doesn't grow to your liking you can always increase the lights
