Need some recommendations for a bottom feeding fish to eat up scraps of food that escape my arowana. He seems to be eating yamatoes, so shrimps are out.
Thx

cories will do fine
but the aro might get hurt until he figures out they're armoured catfish
what do you feed your arawona? seen these fish in other people's tank: tin foil barb, pleco, siam tiger fish.
I normally feed my aro live frogs and some malayan shrimp. That's about the only stuff it likes. Haven't tried crickets or meal worms, but they're very addictive to aros, so I'm steering clear of them.
I'm trying to wean it onto market prawns.
what cories are hardy types? So far I've 4 clown loaches.
Because it's a planted tank, maybe plecos won't fit well inside. what do you think? (I have never kept cories or plecos before but interested in the zebra plec)
in terms of being hardy, i like Corydoras Aeneus best. these are the most common corys too, so they're cheap as compared to the rest.
zebra plecos are safe for planted tanks, but am not sure if they're safe from the aro...[:0]
P-L-E-C-O-R-Y=M-A-N-I-A!!! YEAH!
FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.
Coryfav, they're be safe alright..........in the aro stomach![] [] []
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.
i suggest cory too.
Cheers!
Benetay

most cories are quite hardy
but try to avoid those white and black ones, i've noticed they're usually harder to keep alive
Big walking catfishes? Or bichirs? The catfish will compete for food with your aro though and will grow at a faster rate as compared to your aro...
(1)birchirs
(2)Hoplo Cat - Hoplosternum thoracatum - My favourite catfish. there are 6 of them in Rain's tank now. Can get at seng brothers...armoured, get to only abt 15cm. Feeds very well.
here is some info
(3)Black Ghost Knife - Yes thats right. Very good bottom feeder. Ignored by almost all fish. Compliments an arowana tank very well. I have one in a tank of killer cichlids and nobody bothers abt it. Guess it just doesnt look like a fish.
Corys - not recommended. armour and spikes may choke aro.
heard bgk is very very pugnacious once it grows big
with aro confirm ok
yes they are actually quarrelsome, even when young
Vican,
Got my RTG on Saturday from Pet Provision (pics later this week). He's already eating... now he's getting market prawns, but I'm looking up supplements.
Have noticed my SAEs going for the small scraps of prawns that he misses.
You might want to try Malayan shrimps. He seems to ignore them, or they are small enough to remain hidden in the undergrowth. They'll either work or become a cheap snack for your aro.
I think its going to be hard to introduce new fishes into an aggressive aro tank. Small ones they try to eat (mine gobbled up an algae wafer I threw in for the SAEs this morning... he spat it out eventually), bigger ones I think they might attack. Probably have to do it in the dark amongst the heavy foliage.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
