Canon does this so often that it's not quite as exciting as it use to be, but this time, the range includes their new flagship model.

    Image from www.dpreview

New SLR camera includes the EOS 1Ds MKIII (pictured above) and the EOS 40D. Compact camera includes G9 (which they finally put back the RAW), SX100 IS, SD950 IS, SD870 IS, A650 IS and A720 IS. Looks like Image Stablizer technology is now part of the core offering.

Lenses include the new EF 14 mm f2.8 L II USM, EF-S 18-55 mm IS and 55-250 mm IS.

There are also new accessories that are usually launched during these announcements, but get overshadowed by the buzz from the new cameras. Something of interest is the WiFi grip that's built into the 40D.

More details at www.dpreview.com and www.robgalbraith.com.

Those looking for bargain equipment can start camping out at www.clubsnap.com for the equipment collectors to start dumping their current gear. I'm sure used EOS 20D and EOS 30D camera bodies will be very attractively priced

Have not got a 20D yet since a few years back. Now becoming a vintage camera already?

I can't find any specs for the Powershot G9 at dpreview yet.

Looks like my 20D is now an antique. I seriously doubt who wants to buy it from me :d

The EOS 20D can still fetch a pretty penny, althought not without a huge, huge depreciation (I remember Mervin and mine were purchased at the princely sum of S$2980). The EOS D60 is even worst. Literally nobody wants it. Most would say that a S$500 mini pocket camera has a higher Megapixel count than the obsolete SLR. Flawed comparison, and a shame..

But, before you all rush out to grab the latest, ask yourself this..

How will the new camera improve my photography in real terms?

If it's resolution that you are after, then are you one of those that have never printed a photograph? If so, your argument will not hold water and there will be no justification for an upgrade.

By the way, Nikon's announcement should not be far off. It will be interesting to watch what else is hitting the market.

    Cheers,
I am with you on that...Today, my pals had a good laff at me when I told that I am unfazed with the 40D and would instead milk the 20D dry till 2009 at least..then probably a good time to upgrade...provided my photography skills improve....else no point..

The real camera I would want is something like a 5D. I think the replacement model will be spectacular. 20D-> 30D-> 40D... 3 models now..and there's only one 5D model...So, I guess it is worth the wait...
