I'll wait for the mid-2008 announcement instead.

hmmm... do we really need such a camera? I mean my 20D is already doing amazing shots, I don't really see myself getting a 5D or 1D. Unless I really need a full frame or ultra fast FPS. Or if I really need to produce print out that is more than A3 size. On the other hand, I would carefully invest in specific lenses that satisfy my shooting styles and needs. lol or is it just that gadgets are naturally in our male blood?

your comments are definitely valid esp the investment on lenses. However, the problem is that nowadays the lenses are made almost specifically for certain types of body. DX lenses will not work ideally with the D3 cos of the crop factor and FF lenses are a waste on non-FF bodies etc. That is my issue when i purchase my lenses. I am just afraid if i buy DX lenses, then what happens if I buy D3 in the future. Even though D3 can still work with DX lenses, it is not ideal.
I suppose that's how these companies make money...

Is there any brand that have the lest compatible through out the model?
5mp size is ok for snapshots using a DX lens on a D3 IMHO. It's good for 8R enlargements IMHO.
The D300 is actually looking very attrative as it's performance surpasses D2X in many ways.
Nowadays I find my pbook is getting loaded with pictures that I may use in the future and don't have the heart to delete. Shooting RAW is a pain to manage.

The 5 MP is what I'm having issues with on the DX factor. I want to be able to print large. That's why I'll wait for the flagship to be announce and take a look at that camera instead.
As for needing this camera or not, I think it's long overdue. I need the low light performance and high ISO.

The high ISO photos from the D3 looks amazing. I fear that my year end bonus will....

If I start saving now, I'll probably be able to afford the D300 mid 2008. lol. D3's for the pro's.
I'd probably pay for glass instead. The new zooms are really something.

So anybody selling their D200 to upgrade to D300??
Nope, D200 will be sold to pick up another pro body to go alongside the D2X.
Here are some new high res images (click to enlarge) from the D3 for those interested.
