Hi guys! Just want to know how many of you gurus out there are using the stuff as mentioned in the topic. If never use and with KH being 0...even with slow dosing of CO2..will pH crash occur? Will be able to cut cost even further if the stuff is not necessary []

Peter, the most economical way to raise KH is by baking soda. A 200g bottle cost just $1~2 and can last me about 6 months. (Mine is a planted not cichlid tank.) IMO, KH should not be zero, very high risk for pH crashing especially with CO2 injecting and even more so if you have a drift wood in the tank.

Leafhorn, maybe you can check yellow pages for bakery supplies?

Nature Aquarium has 900g packs for a good price.

Okay I see..so do you guys still use KH test kit to measure how much to add or like what vinz told me last time...gauge the initial dosing by using test kit and later don't need cause can go by experience?

Yah... initially always test KH... after water change, before water change, tap water, after adding baking soda...

Now, only when I feel like it (rarely). Always add a fixed amount at water change.

It is good for you to measure KH initially to get the feel of it. After a while, you will be like Vinz naturally.
