    Hey,

    a) What sort of materials do you use as a backdrop?
    b) What sort of plants do you use there? Christmas Moss? Java Moss?
    c) Does the backdrop go all the way to the top of the tank above the waterlevel?
    d) Does the backdrop trap alot of wastes?

    Thanks!

    a) What sort of materials do you use as a backdrop?
corkbark or styroform (dependent on budget)

    b) What sort of plants do you use there? Christmas Moss? Java Moss?
    Moss or fern or combo

    c) Does the backdrop go all the way to the top of the tank above the waterlevel?
it depend on yourself, I prefer it above the water level.. the other question u shld ask it shld the backdrop go all the way down to the bottom.. the ans. is not necessary (shld start a few cm below yr gravel line)

    d) Does the backdrop trap alot of wastes?
if u use corkbark, yes.. reason to it simply coz the back is irregular therefore impossible to secure the backdrop even to the wall. But if u use the styroform then u can easily silicone the thing

    Simon,
thanks for your response. If the backdrop is above the water, how do you keep the moss or whatever wet and prevent it from drying up and dying?

if its corkbark then u dun to worry coz water is absorbed into the corkbark thus keeping it moist... i oso have moss on the top but most of the mosses r below water, so it acts like sponge

    Hi,

I saw a tank in Pet Junction ( near Bishan Junction 8 ) that ties some plants on a black netting backdrop...

Are those Java Moss or Xmas Moss ??

how do tie them until they are kinda layered and so organised... ??

Is your tank already set up? If yes, it will be a big task to install the background now. If you're considering corbark, you'll have problem as you'll need to silicon the pieces of corkbark together. The Styrofoam background too will be a problem cos, cos it floats. Not easy to install.... You may want to consider the net thing suggested by stanley.

If you really want, the corkbark looks the best. The styrofoam one looks ok but nicer than the net. Juz mu opinion.
    Cheers!!

I've used the netting or mesh method to set it up.
    Thanks everyone.

once the moss starts growing, they will cover the mesh in no time.. but with netting, u get risk for getting 'drowned' fishes

You'll probably want to get the mesh instead of the netting... coz mesh got more substance to anchor your backdrop...

Whatever was mentioned in that URL... me already done that.... I also threaded the whole mesh with fish line to ensure that the moss doesnt sag down when immersed in the water.
