    Hi all,

need your advise on stem plants turning black around the lower to middle portion of its stem. Is it due to insufficient lighting or due to lack of nutrients available ?

    thanks

    Hi,

Which specific species of plant(s)?What kind of blackened growth? Does it rot and melts away?
What size of tank, what kind and amount of lighting?

Blackened lower part continued by rotting of the plant usually equal to insufficient lighting which reach the lower area.

However if the top part is growing so nicely and when it seems that your tank has enough light by the rules of thumb/generally, the culprit is usually the substrate. Substrate poisoning (anaerobic condition or perhaps heavy metal intoxication) may lead to all sorts of rotting off right by the substrate level on most stem plants.

It turned black and broke off at the point where you did the trim?
It could due to the portion of the trim is "injured" from unshape scissors.
Also, increase your trace to improve on the recovery capability of cuttings or diseases.
