My solution: Wash your filter, buy some ceratophyllum demersum (hornwort) and throw them in. Wait for 3 months, BBA will disappear. Advantage: Don't need to clean up the whole tank, ideal for lazy and busy people. Disadvantage: 3 months maybe too long for those impatient people. []

yamatos do NOT eat BBA. ONly SAES are known to do so, but you must starve them (i.e. dun feed a single thing for at least 3-4 days).
If you search thru past posts, you should gather that chemical solutions to algae often do more damage than they are worth. Using plants like hornwort and other fast growers to soak up excess nutrients (while keeping up with water changes) will not produce instant results, but it work better over time.
Are you turning your CO2 on at night? What is your tank size, fish/shrimp population, plants, water change rate, water condition, tank age, lighting....?

Have read that SAEs only eat young BBA. If that is true, they'll help prevent BBA outbreaks and help keep BBA from reviving while adult BBA is being destroyed by other means.

Big Herm, three months is the time it takes for the BBA to die out as the Hornwort outcompetes and deprive them of nutrients. That's the idea behind using Hornwort or other nutrient sucking plants against algae. So if it works, the BBA will not be out of control.

You could shorten the process by removing as much BBA as possible first.

temp - water and substract heater
using fan to cool down the temp

Actually, I've read that Yamatos do eat BBA... but BBA is the last thing any BBA muncher will eat if there is any other source of food... including certain plants.

Did you measure your P? If its high, try lowering it with fast growing plants. One thing you also need to bear in mind is that plants will only uptake P efficiently if other nutrients are balanced.

P can also be control with the amount and frequency of your feeding the fish.

    Hi guys,
Does Teo understand hornwort? Wanted to get some from him.
What is the chinese name for this plant? Or which LFS is this plant commonly available? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Hi DreamGarden,

If you are getting fast growing Hornwort to lower your nutrient, I would like to suggest that you include some Frogbit. They are floating plants with roots in the water column. With their aerial advantage and root system, they are very efficient for sucking up surplus nutrient.
