    Hi there,

I was wondering what's the difference between Sera artemia mix and Sera brine shrimp eggs.

Is it possible to use the Sera artemia mix together with the brine shrimp hatchery? If possible, then do I eliminate the addition of salt? Cause the directions for preparation says just warm water will do.

    Thanks.

    Hey Wilson,

I believe that the artemia mix has salt and eggs premixed for you, so you'll need to only add water, while the the BS eggs, you'll need to get the salt separatey....

You'll need nothing else if you use the artemia mix, and yes, definitely can be used with the hatchery Have fun hatching bbs!

It depends if you're hatching bbs for long term or short term.....

If long term, better to get a pack of salt and bbs eggs....
If short term use, then go for the artemia mix...

    Really?

Cause a packet of Sera Artemia Mix cost like $2.50 and I think can last through a month of everday hatching.

1 packet is sufficient for 1 shot. Its very convenient and (almost) guaranteed to work. I have purchased a $10 pack of brine shrimp eggs but I have not succeeded in getting them to hatch. I've tried various combinations of sea salt and somehow have not been successful in getting the correct salinity. I certainly dont want to get a refractometer just for measuring salinity.

But the contents in a packet is quite alot. Like the same amount of bbs that came with the hatchery.

    Re: Sera Artemia Mix

Once opened, you have to use it all since the salt and eggs are pre-mixed. If you wish to hatch small quantities of brine shrimps, buy the eggs and salt mix separately, so you can control the amount of eggs used.

    Question Re: Sera Artemia Mix

How long can newly hatched BBS live without food?Cause I'm planning on using them for three days and I only have 1 packet.

BBS eggs are hard to find around my area.

    Re: Sera Artemia Mix

Probably 48 hours. Once they molt and form a mouth to feed with, they will die if no nourishment is given.

    Re: Sera Artemia Mix

You're welcome. If you need a food to feed them, there is this product called Liquifry Marine. You can also enrich the BBS using Selcon, a marine product that is pretty good for nourishing BBS that have been out for longer than 24 hours post hatching.

    Re: Sera Artemia Mix

Can I use the plain Liquidfry instead of the Marine one?

    Re: Sera Artemia Mix

I'm not sure, since I only fed mine with Liquifry Marine since it's basically a soup-like solution, which is perfect for these tiny critters. The other 2 types of Liquifry, name No.1 and 2 are for egglayers and livebearer fry respectively. I used both and they don't seem suitable for BBS.
