Provided your base fertilizer and gravel does not contain any type of buffer other than bi-carbonates, you can use the pH/KH/CO2 table to find the desired bubble rate. Other than that, you can use stuff like continuous CO2 test kit to find the desired bubble rate..just make sure you adjust slowly as the kit take sometime to change colour. If there are other forms of buffer...you can do the estimate way..dose 1 or 2 bubble per second initially...wait for a few hours to see if plants bubble as well as fish acting weird. If not increase 1 bubble every 6 hour until you see plants bubble (Make sure fish is not breathing at the surface hor..if not all die)..tip is to do slowly.

Usual bubble rate for establised tank is 2-4bps (Size does not really matter..its the plant type and bio load of the tank that matters. For example plants like riccia like more bubble rate as they are CO2 hungry plants.

In my 4ft tank, I try to achieve 1 bubble in 4 seconds with a reactor. And I do not have a solenoid. Any faster bubbiling rate seem to be stressful to the fish.
