Any bros could help me figure out what plant would be best to substitute vallis as a background plant? I am growing them in ADA Amazonia aqua soil but the leaves are melting away although runners have grown..

Vallisneria species actually like harder waters according to some places which I read. So ADA soil waters are abit too soft for their liking. Maybe can look at Cyprus helferi as the alternative. Or, Cryptocoryne balansae? Both for the long leafy look.

Most plant shops carry C.helferi. But for C.balansae, it will take some finding. You can always order from shops. Where do you stay? Will be able to better advise you.

Do take note on the SMS spellings...

Yes, Cryptocoryne balansae is a good replacement for Vallisneria spp. as background plants...

Mmm... Woodlands... You might want to try Biotope... You can always ask Thio to get the plants in for you. Alternatively, if you don't mind travelling, you can go to Teo's Aquatic Plant Farm or other popular shops like C328... Bring along a picture of the plant or an Aquarium Plant Handbook for easy reference... Or ask the shop/farm for a plant book if unsure.

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii
