IMHO, it may not work as you are creating an urea based fertilizer. Urea = Algae bloom. Unless your top layer is thick enough to prevent the leeching of ferts from the bottom layer.
Let's hear what others have to say.
I read a lot about people using ADA powersand with ADA soil on top. Some people just simply filled up their tank with only GeX or ADA soil.
I am planning for my new 3ft x 2ft x 2ft tank. I was thinking, is it possible to have 3/4 layer of lapis with root monster/root tap/chicken poo...etc with 1/4 layer of soil on top? Any better recommandation?

I may not use chicken poo. Maybe only root monster, wonder-gro root tabs and others which you guys can recommand. I am planning to cover the base fert with at least 4 inch of soil and lapis.
I'm thinking maybe lapis sand is to hard/dense it may cause anaerobic, Aquaclay might work better. Well at least that what I'm planning to do, Aquaclay mixed with crust bamboo charcoal.
Any other bro care to share how you layer your substrate?
I used to mix crushed lava rocks with JBJ fertiliser and top it with aquasoil. Also experimented with plant ferts. With plant ferts, be prepare to do lotsa water changes because ur ammonia can go way off the charts. Not really advisable.
There can only be ONE
My previous tank setup was as follows :
Layer 1 -> JBJ base fert
Layer 2 -> JBJ red rounded substrate (suppose to be good for cories babels)
Current tank setup :
Layer 3 -> cheap black substrate from Y618
Layer 4 -> ADA Amazonia (remaining not enough to cover so rush to buy GeX)
Layer 5 -> GeX green package aquasoil
Future tank setup :
1 Layer only -> ADA Amazonia/GeX.
Layer 1 = bottom most
Layer 5 = top layer
I am using ada soil with special powersand. When using ada soil, it best not to disturb them like replanting etc. It may cause water becoming cloudy, if not careful. There also live bacteria among the powersand, so it like a living substrate.
