Hey all, i have recently bought some dario from That Aquarium. Not sure what the species is, but whilst browsing through the net, i found out that they look actually closest to the apparently newly discovered dario spec. bangladesh.

you can see it on this webpage, the last photograph.

does anyone have more information on these?

    thanks

Question: Does it have a black mask from the snout across the eye till the gill area?

If so, then they could very well be Dario sp. "Bangladesh". Don't think the husbandry is any different from D. dario (I'll check).

Some information in German, translation via Google not so perfect though.

    Alexander Dorn's website: http://translate.google.com/translat...dorn%26hl%3Den

This species is yet to be described scientifically. Colour of male is orange brown at the back, becomes redder towards the belly, first ray of dorsal is black in colour, all fins with sky blue seam. Colour of female is grey brown, fins with sky blue seam but not as pronounced as the male. Both has the black streak across the eye as mentioned.

As with D. dario, males mark their own territories, so some hiding place is needed. Diet is almost exclusively on live/frozen food (not easy to switch to dry food). Reproduce via egg scattering, so provide lots of plants like Java moss. Do a search on D. dario and you will probably get some idea on how to keep them.

In Aqualog News 72 (29 Nov 2006), there is a write up on the undescribed Dario spp. It is said that they probably comes from the border region between Bangladesh and Burma. One population of this species has been identified with the locality name "Jaintian Hills".

Thanks a lot for this link!
i'm actually half german, so i could read what was written in german there , good link for info on these! I've kept Dario Dario before, so i've experienced the fact that they will not even go close to frozen food or flakes and only take live food, so i'm guessing its going to be the same for these little sweethearts..

Very exciting to see if we can find out more about these!
