    Would like to find out how feasible the following idea is.

    Bottom layer using JBL base fertiliser, followed by 1 inch of gravel about 3 mm thick topped of by 1 cm of gravel about 1mm thick.

    jus the base fert and a layer of 2-3mm diameter gravel will do..

    if i don't use 2-3 mm gravel but 1mm gravel issit feasible?

    jus a caution, fine sand can end up starving the roots of O2 (usually lead to rotting), but i have seen some who using it but success and its usually the top layer

    Simon, wat if I just use the fine gravel [river sand type] after I placed the base fert? I have a pack of those river sand lying around. Gonna setup a 2ft planted tank with B.J n lotus. Will the roots have enuf grip on the sand?

    okay, i understand what u mean, when u say starving the roots u mean fine sand...i sorta misunderstood. mine at home is not sand though.

    BFG: no idea, coz I never try fine sand in my tanks b4, but i use turf sand for my submersed plants and they didnt make it
