Anyone ever set up a tank exclusively for shrimps? Would love to hear from u. Just lost my last fish in my 1.5 ft tank. So thought of setting up a shrimp tank for malayan, bee and tiger shrimps.

my 2ft tank has only malayan shrimps and 2 otos added in it, after i set it up with plants (water wisteria, java ferns, indian fern, java moss, pennywort, nana) for a month. don't intend to put any other fish in it.

also started slightly over a month back, a similar setup with my spare 1.5ft tank. it's at my parents' place so apart from weekly water change, i hardly have a chance to "tend" to it. []

got the courage to put up such "low maintenance" tanks, after reading about the planted tanks of some members here, which they've shrimps in them.

for a good shrimp tank can check out Nature's shrimp breeding tank. This located at the back (private) area. Maybe you get friendly with Chan first and get onto his shrimp queue, then he'll show you his shrimp production line

I want to be HEIBEE KING (learn how to set up a shrimp tank)

    Mech,

correct me if I'm wrong. But the general idea I get from the site is that the guy was setting up a planted tank with center divider for part planted and part under-gravel filtered tank. On the left is the part where he allows the tank to break down the wastes and where he can plants his various plants for shrimps to hide in. And on the right, he can have a neatly covered and undisturbed under-gravel filter.

    Hi wks

I'm starting one too. Hopefully the shrimps don't die on us. Good Luck.

    Hi Mech/choy/yes

Would 30 shrimps be too much for a 1 ft cube?

    hi chrissia..

mine 1.5ft tank got over 30 shrimps also.. np if u want to have 30 shrimps in ur tank.. just give them enough moss. and it is better not to add in shrimps straight to a new tank.. let the tank stable first then add in the shrimps.. cheers

Guys, thanks for the reply. Got some more questions.

1)I intend to leave the tank bare and have java moss spreading around the base.Is it OK?
2)Whats the pH, kH and GH required to keep the shrimps in good condition?
3)What sort of shrimp food? At the moment my tank got no outbreak of any algae yet.
4)Is it alright w/o any light for the shrimps? I'm putting java moss, java ferns, some h.polysperma and vallisneria, hopefully the sunlight can replace the lack of artificial light.
5)Is it alright to go w/o filter? If thats OK, how often should we change water?

Not a bad idea to setup a shrimp tank. Maybe, you can try to breed them. Could be interesting. I found that they hatch easily, but can survive longer that 5 days(my record).
