    Haha

i am interested in getting a 2ft tank with built in internal overflow . (it looks so neat i really want to buy for the sake of it..)

I am thinking of planting something .... never done any real planting so think of trying.

    What do you guys recommend
    (1) places to get plants
    (2) plants to avoid for someone with little experience with being tank farmer
    (3) CO2 absolutely needed? If i can compromise on plant density?
    (4) how much light ah? 2 standard 2ft light covers (FL) enough?
    (5) fish stock, test kits etc already have.

the tank will have abt 4"-5" of its length taken up by the wet-dry overflow.

Just a rough idea first will do .

Thank you for lending me your green hands []

kekekee.. finally wanna try yr first.. []

for a 2ft tank, if u go for low maintenance tank, then u roughly can get 2x20w FL but if u wanna have 'fun' with highlighted plants then go for 2x36w

having a internal filter is fine, but of coz u need to hide the filter...

if having a c02 is a big thing, then start with a DIY b4 u progress or if u intend to go for long []

plant wise, places like Teo, Havelock, ah pek have a great selection to choose from... and u shld try the plants u like, visit the site below to help u ID the plants and show u the requirement needed for them

what is imprt to test is yr PH,KH,No2&3

    list:
    1)gravel (lonestar if u on a budget)
2)substrate fertilizer (JBL, cheap and goodddddd)
    3)Lights
    4)filter
5)Co2 (DIY or cylinder) (cylinder includes - regulator, cylinder, solenoid, bubble counter, check valve)
    6)Decoration (Drift/Bogwood, fossil wood..etc)

    Dennerle
    Tropica

    enjoy

    no no
the "just kidding" refers to your post on your 4ft tank setup..
    abt the CB leaves

    anyway, points taken.
THose things i need are just fertilizer, some co2 stuff, maybe new lights, and of coz plants.

i have plenty of other equipment/hardware to spare

the filter is built in, and i will conceal it with black stick.
maybe can make into something like a tv set with buttons and all...to see why,
    look at this sample

    SAmple 2ft with overflow

i will never embark on large scale planted tanks lah....

i will rather the focus to be on the fish.

coz i like the tank i shown a lot, and i think since i am doing something small, i cannot keep much fish anyway, and "modern" tank planting is something i havent done b4. So just interested what i can come out with.

Don't worry lsz, we all start things small. I firmly believe that u will be hooked after u started it. The one big plus thing about planted tank is that u can redo the landscape if u get tired of the current one.

U also get to try more difficult plants, experiment with different growing environment(pure gavel vs soil based and even rock based), test out different equipments to bring out the best of your plants. Another thing I like about the plants are that they are so much cheaper than fish (except Tropica) and u can overstock your tank with plants but not fish.

Trust me, u won't regret your decision.

    you see,
i've kept so many wondeful fish before for as long as i can remember.

Perhaps for someone that just stepped into the hobby, a planted tank is a very attractive thing. But for someone like me, who had discovered so much magic in fish, they are little more than just pretty decorations to me.
And like what i had said, planted tanks are not natural. Plants dont grow like this in the wild, planted tanks are like bonsai.

I am willing to spend hundreds on a dull looking fish and ppl will think i am crazy..get what i mean.

But i am willing to venture into it as it is an interesting aspect of the hobby itself.

I had not done marine because of certain principals that i hold. Esp those stuff that are harvested from coral reefs, and wild caught fish (eg some sea horse are still wild caught although some are farmed) that may already be endangered.

and do not get me wrong

planted tank is a total art by itself.

i am willing the learn the many unique considerations of this branch of the hobby, but at the end of the day, that's not where my heart for the hobby lies

    Isz,
u making me feel guilty with the talk on 'raping' the reef of it inhabitants.. sigh..[] perhaps i should stop keeping it altogether..[] .. hahaha.. [] anyway.. i do hold some principles regarding corals and livestock as well.. for instant, i dun keep hard corals for they form the exo-skeleton of the reef and seahorses as well.. they have very poor survival rate in aquariums.. (eerrr... i dun know abt the rest of the fishes..)[]
