why not just get all males to eat the mosquito larvae? once they start breeding you're gonna have a headache as livebearers are very prolific
hi guys, as i had a 1ft guppy tank using drip method system to top up my water for my 2ft planted. i need some fish inside to eat any mosquito larvea that lay eggs on the stagnant water. im thinking of tiger endlers..
was wondering if they are as hardy as guppies?
and will they be able to breed in a filterless tank?
the ambient temperature in the room is 28C. having some moss inside too.. with little lighting from my 2ft planted.
thanks!

Endlers are quite hardy but its also good to have some form of areation to provide a minimal amount of oxygen, they are not like bettas....They breed very easily, just one male and a few females...don't worry about the many number of fries, i'm sure the AQ brothers are more than willing to adopt them
Is the water dripping into this guppy tank?

i have 1 other small tank and another one coming up soon.. so i want to breed and keep it a endler tank..
as for the areation.. not quite possible, no more plugs leh.. anyway, the drip method top upwater system im using is basically useing a tube to suck water from the guppy tank to my 2ft planted. then use those metal thingy to stop the quite flow to only 1 or 2 drip of water per second. so my water level remain the same without me toping up everyday. i just have to top up aged water to that guppy tank once every 3days.

First of all, the tiger endlers are not "pure" endlers. They are probably a hybrid cross between Poecilia wingei (endlers) and Poecilia reticulata (guppies).
Is there any water surface movement in that tank at all? If your tank is without filter/aeration/plants/water surface movement, then I would advice that you get Bettas instead. Without all those, disolved oxygen would be a problem and therefore Bettas, that can breath atmospheric air, would be the better choise.
i thought endlers and guppies require little amount of oxygen only?
i have some lighting from my 2ft.. and some lose spiky moss in the tank too.. maybe buying those oxygen stones will help?

How did you come to that understanding that endlers or guppies require little amount of oxygen?
Most fishes, endlers and guppies included, take in oxygen by using their gills to extract it from the water which passes through them, unlike fishes (e.g. Anabantoids) who could breath in oxygen directly from air. However, I am not saying that you cannot keep endlers and guppies in the tank, but in the event where disolved oxygen can be a potential problem, these fishes can suffer from hypoxia. So logically, air breathing fishes like Bettas would make the better choice.
If your tank has either filter, aeration, water surface movement (which increases gaseous exchanges, that translates to more dissolved oxygen) or plants (that produces enough oxygen during photosynthesis), then that is not a problem.
i'll keep this 1 pair first.. and see how =)
even I'm running an airpump for my guppies, they definitely need a well oxygenated water

I place my excess guppy frys into a bowl (slightly bigger than prawn noodle bowl) of water where I put my "iron plant" w/o any areation and they survived but slower growth than those in tanks.
So its possible for your endlers to survive but probably slower growth rate.
