I recently bought some bamboo charcoal from Daiso to be put in my tank, the instructions said to wash it thoroughly, boil the pieces well and then sun dry it...I was wondering if it were alright if I just washed it and put it in the tank? Another question would be, why is there a need to boil it well? To remove of impurities?

i see....is there a way to make the pieces stay at the bottom, cos they just seem to float up in the tank.

Bamboo charcoal is more porous then normal BBQ charcoal. However, sometime I can smell oil from the BBQ charcoal, so it might be dangerous for your fauna. Bamboo charcoal that you bought fro Daiso on the other hand, can be used for cooking as well, so it might be safer.

put the bamboos in boiling water for like 10mins ...then put back. It will sink immediately. Personally tried.

If I recalled from somebody, BBQ charcoal that you find at your supermarket can sometimes contain chemicals. My stance is that it is baloney, since you are using the direct heat from charcoal to cook your food.

yes, boiling them is the key, no more floating.

I think it should be the same. Just that the price tag is very different.
