most species of gouramis are ok, dun bother plants. Just avoid the larger species like the snakeskin (anyway not very pretty) and the giant gourami.

IME, no problems for planted tank. Consider the Pearl Gourami... but they are double the size of the dwarfs.

One of the better looking gouramis for planted tank in my opinion...
But do take note that they require excellent water conditions.

i have a pair of honey gouramis in my planted tank and they seem to enjoy nipping at the plants...i was also wondering if i should take them out...but they look so cute i just can't bear to...[]

I used to have a pair of dwarf gouramis. I discovered that when it's time to build a nest, they with start nipping at leafy plant like my hygro to make its nest. Quite intriguing sight to see the gourami nipping off a leave and pull it to a corner to build its bubble nest.

you can rest assured that it's perfectly ok to keep dwarf gouramis in plted tanks. I've been keeping pearl, dwarf (sunset or neon sp.) and honey gouramis and they have been living in harmony w the plts. In fact, they need alot of plts for cover and refuge. I am rather perplexed by NA's advice to you??
Yes, I have Honey Gouramis in my plant tank. They are peaceful and they leave the plants alone

thnks for the assurance. Chan at NA had a personal experience where he put 2-3 red gouramis (chili gouramis i think) in his 1 foot moss tank ( on his counter). The next day, his java ferns were nipped.So he took them out.
In my case, just an occasional 1 or 2 leaves being nipped for nest building. I can live with that. I guess if I had some overhanging plants, they might not even nip my plant for its nest.

oh ya, those honey gouramis actually do the plts good...they peck at the surface of leaves, not to damage them but to clean them of brown algae growing on the surface. Good guys they are, bless them!

Another question....my floating plants (frogbits, i think) suddenly have holes in it...every one of them. Seems that something is biting them. I have angelfish, tetras (cardinal and phantom), oto and malayan shrimps. Any of them the culprit?

Check for signs of snails in your tank...maybe its just some of your shrimps or fish..but better to look out for snails.
