im having a bad problem of algae growing thickly on the surface of my 1ft cherry shrimp tank, most probably due to direct sunlight and only moss in the tank.

there is one question i have been wondering, will the water quality be affected if let say i use a brush and scrub the algae away? i tried before and the algae just float around and got sucked to the sponge on my hang-on filter. also will the algae i scrub off 'land' on the moss and affect their growth? currently still no problem with my moss. thanks for advices

You can scrape the algae off with a credit card. It should not affect the water. The shrimp will probably eat the loose algae if they are hungry.

Scraping off algae with a phone card or credit is an easy way, some shops do sell algae scapers. The scrapers look like those you use to scrape off paint.

Siamese Algae Eater , is this available in LFS?

haha... yeah, my type of algae is more like those that are growing on the tank surface.

    brief description of my tank:
    4ft, 250L
    discus filled, (2-5")
    1 black gold fish

    thanks!

yup SAE are available in LFS, you can try Polyart, C328 or NA.

I got 3 horn snail in my tank and they dont clean my green algae on tank wall and i have to scrub it myself manually using the glass magnet.

oh, glass magnet i think i saw that before.

if the snails don't do their job, end up we still have to do the job.

Brand dont think is the matter. Get big ones. I prefer those with blue grip.

Those magnet thingys don't work well, execpt to keep your hands dry. It can't clean off greenspot algae and god forbid if it should pick up a speck of gravel. I still have one, but I now rely on my trusty AMEX. 'Don't scrape without it'.
