After I upgraded my CO2 reactor from UPs (3-balls) to Jaqno CO2 mixer CX-113 and 36watt PL to 2 x 24watt HO T5, my Japonica starts turning red.

I did a CO2 test and my kH is 4-6 and pH is 6.4-6.8.
I guess this should be fine with the plants and my shrimps and fauna are doing fine too.

The thing that puzzle me is that how come my Japonica will turn red?
I'd moved 3 of them away from the inlet and some shade under my Tiger Lotus, it seems like it's better there. I thought Japonica requires CO2 and strong lightings? Why does it turn red and rooting off?

Anyone can advice on this? Thanks.
    Cheers,

    Redmond

is it bright red? under high lights blyxa will turn gold or coppery in colour and start growing dense and compact. under low lights, blyxa will be light green, tall and stringy. perhaps it's the upgrade in lights that caused the change in colour. i'm sporting 3wpg in my 422 tank and all my blyxa has copper/gold highlights

is coppery red in color, but its also rotting off.
The question is how come those that i moved under the shade stop rotting.
And this is what puzzle me...

    I'm not sure of the WPG rating. Mine is a 2 ft tank (60cm x 40-45cm x 55cm).
    Let me do some calculation...

    Thanks illumnae!

possibly the old leaves aren't used to the new conditions and are thus melting to develop new ones? i'm not sure about this as my blyxa was planted with high light from the start...one of the gurus could probably answer this better

Very low nitrogen, no chlorophyll formation and thus exposure of red plant pigments. Going beyond that causing the plant to cannibalize itself.

    This is deep Mr Peter.

    I'll digest it tonight.
Question, 'low nitrogen' <=> anything to do with nitrate or nitrite?

I'd add 'Ferrotabs' from JBL, will it helps?

    Hi illumnae,

I have measured my tank, its about 61litre (16gallon)
    Meaning I am also sporting 3WPG with my 2 x 24watt HO T5.
Perhaps its due to new T5 tube? (brighter when its new)
    Cheers,

    Redmond
