    Hi members,

i just got my lighting unit, and realized that it comes with a 10000K bulb, instead of the more recomended 6500K. What does the numberof K stands for? Can i grow plants with 10000K bulb? Thanks ron

This type of K rating is for marine tanks actually...Recommend you go to Nature Aquarium and change the bulb to 6500K type. The boss Chan should answer your doubts. AEC brand is cheap..$9 per bulb. []

the k number is called the colour temperature and used as a measure to quantify white light.
it is to denote the redness or blueness of white light.
reddish will be around 500k, orange at around 2000k, daylight at 6500k and bluish at around 10000k.

10000k is not advisable for planted tank as some people have experienced more algae growth.
also every plant will have a bluish hue.

    K - Kelvin (temperature)

Imagine the colour of the rainbow..... the lowest colour temp would be red and the highest is violet. Daylight (6500K) would be most suited as it is low enough to avoid algae bloom and it high enough to give you a clear white colour.
    Cheers!!

the kelvins rating is related to black body radiation at different temperatures
for example, at 10000K, a black body will appear to glow blue

    10000K is a bit bluish
but it can still be used, if you don't mind the strange hues
ime plants can grow in a very wide range of light

    Ronig,

NA address can be found in AQ LFS List... see topmost menu bar.

It's directly opposite the Thomson Medical Center.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
