    Yes. Sometimes the water that comes with daphnia is not that clean. I would use a strainer and wash the daphnia before feeding, especially to the more sensative fishes.

    Daphnia are great for feeding fries and can be fed to bigger fishes too.
    I use to treat my dwarf cichlids once in a while.
    The water that they were packed in have a funny ordor, usually I wash them with tap water first before feeding them to my fishes.

    I think the funny odour may be that of the dead daphnia starting to smell.
