I forgot what substrate I am using but my KH is also like that. 1 drop and the color changes. I got a bottle of Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) from NTUC and adjusted till I got a KH of around 4 after water changes.

Hi Cairocks,, how much of baking soda do i need to put in? Also i felt the tank is filling up with lots of "bubbles" which is from the co2.. does this means i m putting too much of co2?

I normally take some water from the tank and use a 5 ml measuring spoon to dissolve 1 or 2 spoonful of baking soda. Then I pour back the solution to the tank and I measure the KH and I keep the increase to 1 KH unit per day till the total increase is 4 KH units. This is to avoid sudden drastic increase in KH in a too short timespan.

did you check your tap water kH? I thing singapore tap water have low kH

by the way you might want to check magic soil property, it might have the kH lowering feature. If it is so, no matter how many kH plus you put it in, it will drop again the next day until the soil is exausted.

If I'm not mistaken magic soil have the pH down and buffering capability, if so, then why do you want to increase the kH?

i did check the tap water, first drop in also become yellow.. but when i put in more.. then it became blue and then turns back to yellow again.. maybe my kit is spoil.. i thought the best environment is to have 2-4kh? that way ur ph will be more or less neutral. Is that correct?

kH = 2-4 does not mean neutral pH, at least that my understanding. Higher kH mean it has buffering ability to absorb added acid without drastic pH change (crass).

With ADA soils and GEX, it has kH and pH lowering feature. Thus in this case adding kH up will not make any different, it will drop again to zero within a day. Good thing is ADA and GEX also have pH buffering feature, in other word it is able to maintain pH at certain point. Once again I'm not too sure about magic soil.

So unless something is wrong with your tank, you might want to just leave it alone.

found out it it is not compatible with jebo 835 damm... now sitting in the cabinet.. sigh...

i also bought a constant ph test kit..

i think the reading is between 6.2 - 6.6 right? is it okay for the plants?

you can try trimming them if they grow up straight ( like hairgrass ) to encourage them to grow side way.

If you are looking for stands, may want to check out aquastar, they carry a variety of gex/build cabinets/ironwrougt etc, its right at the back of the shop together with all the fish tanks. Hope you find something that is suitable.

my wife ask me to get a small tank and then move the fishes and prawn over before cleaning up the tank.. i want to show the "bad" shape of the tank but i feel "paiseh" to show.. i really dunno what struck until it turn this bad. Everything happened really fast.. perhaps one day i can meet up wif u guys to seek for more advises..

Anyone going to yishun aquarium shop this weekend? i m going over get new stuff.. but i won't buy thing to restart until i've clean up the whole tank.. it is really a saddening thing for me.

    Bro

What do you mean by " i got bad news, my tank is filled up with mosses" or are you referring to algae?
