Can you give a more detaled description? e.g. Is it a tumor sort of growth? Or does it looks soft and cotton like? Are there red streaks?
Cheers,
Hi, something happened to my emperor tetra. Can anyone help me to ID this disease and if possible, give some tips on how to cure it.
On the same day my oto died, this fella here got some strange growths on its fins. reddish. I put it in methylene blue for a day, but still no effect.
Still got hope or not?

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Hi, it's sort of a tumor like growth. When I shine the light on the fish, I can see a small string-like thing inside the growth. It's abit transparent. Not only the dorsal fin is affected.
I think it has something to do with my water quality, sonce I didn't wash my filter media for more than 1 month.
Your fish has an external parasite infection. If you look carefully, you can probably find white colored worms sticking out of the body sometimes. For a start, you can check the ventral, anal and dorsal fins. They will also appear out of the body of the fish as well.
Isolate this fish immediately and go get some external parasite medication from any fish shop. Recommended brands are Waterlife, Interpet. Azoo or Ocean Free will also do.

Hi all, the fish was seperated and the red growths are gone.
Is this thing contagious?
However, the white thread-like parasites are still there. It's been 3 days, but still no effect.
Is it advisable to put in aquarium salt?
I used Interpet no.12.
The fish is looking very weak already.....hope it doesn't die on me...
Hi Don90,
You may want to try potassium permanganate, I think 'ocean free' has it. Becareful of dosage though as it burns the fish if overdose and very lethal. I'm not sure if the worms are outside or inside, if outside 'PP' is the way to go, if inside might need to get another diagnosis.
note: PP=potassium permanganate.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
I think you would get some small change from a red note if you buy the 'ocean free' brand. I wouldn't advise buying the stuff from pharmacy unless you're very familiar with dosage, neither do I think you want a big can of PP lying around...
