For plant identification, get aquatic plant catalogue. It is published by Oriental Aquarium (S) Pte Ltd. U can get it from either Petmart or Sam Yick.

Anyone has that hardcover book on Taiwan aquatic plants? Browsed a bit of Raymond's copy at Aquamart. Methinks is vastly better in terms of plant range and description of habitat and growth, if someone can do Inggelish translation, sure sell like $2 altum.

I heard this book is quite good :

Ecology of the Planted Aquarium : A Practical Manual and Scientific Treatise for the Home Aquarium
    by Diana Walstad

I tried to find it in the library... all library rented out except in Choa Chu Kang library ( too far for me )

    Tried MPH...also out of stock...

Any comments from people that owns this book ??

Walstad's book is like an Organic Farming Bible for aquaplanters. In short, she advocates using a soil-substrate, natural lighting in addition to artificial, rich use of floating plants, using fish-food as fertilisation, minimal water changes and faith that moves mountains.

I just got my copy from the library (took a month even on reservation). From the look of it there's a lot of factual information that would be useful for understanding the biological/chemical processes going on in the tank.

Don't have to agree/believe everything she advocates. One has to remember when temperate people like her says "natural lighting" she don't mean tropical sunlight!

Also some very interesting tables on things like the type of chemicals released by various plants that will inhibit algae and other plants. It comes as a surprise that even the Cabomba releases anti-algae chemical. Something I tend to believe as greenspot algae just returned to my tank, three days after I removed all Cabomba!
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
