    hi people,
    1) how many liters is 1 gallon
    2) how many wattage per gallon is good for the plant
    3) brighter lights ===> more algae growth ?
    4) does insufficient light make plants grow straight to the top ( like those tall and thin trees in the rainforest ) instead of spreading out ?

Thx for the helpful information people

if i remember correctly, i gallon is about 3.75 litres. Depending on the species, plants can need 1.5 to 3 or more W per gallon. For those kind of planted tanks where bubbling plants are desired, at least 2.5-3W per gallon is the norm. Algae is caused more by excess nutrients (esp phosphates and nitrogen in the form of nitrates) than light. Quite true - stem plants grow stringy when light is insufficient.
