I wonder if someone can help me.
I have a Ram, one of a pair that I added to my Cichlid tank. One of the rams developed white spot, I've treated the tank correctly with WS3 (King British) as instructed, (bearing in mind I have treated two other tanks very sucessfully) Usually on the third application of the treatment, the white spot clears, but the Ram has shown no signs of improvement. There are no other physical signs of abnormalities on his body, however, his breathing is rapid and he is not eating. the other ram who was placed in the tank at the same time is perfect, the source i got them is very dependable and all the water tests are within their normal parameters. The stress level in this tank is not a contributor to this. HELP!

Try the salt treatment. Search the medical forum for white spot and salt. This topic has surfaced many times.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

do you noticed any white, transparent mucus trails from the gills....coz it sure sounds like a gill infection that is weakening your rams and the white spots is a secondary infection.

check your water conditions in terms of NO2 and NO3. Rams are somewhat more sensitive to water conditions, PH fluctuations and especially NO2 or NO3.

Whatever the case is, salt is a good course of treatment as recommended by vinz

Thanks David, unfortunately I've lost them both, one the other night and then the other today. I'm not having any luck with Rams, that's three I've lost, while the other species are thriving. I'll give them a break for a while and maybe try again some other time.
I do believe you are right about the gill trouble, would you think that might have developed from stress or some other reason?

    Thanks again for the info

Rams tend to do better in planted tanks and tanks with established water conditions...I had problems with them when I first started but ever since I had no trouble with them except getting males instead of females...Mmmmmmm..

sorry to hear that you lost your rams

if its any consolation, rams have never been an agreeable species for me. They seem fine for weeks and then heavy gill movement, listlessness and death.....sent too many to fishy heaven....

thanks guys, at least I don't feel on my own where Ram loss is concerned. I won't give up just yet, I'll wait a while and maybe will brave it then, at least you've made me feel better.
