    Yup! Nice one indeed!

Richard, from his data, he underexposed his flash by -2. Definitely used flash for this.

    Benny,
I was thinking, he uses the 500mm, which I think, mean the bird is quite far away,
    would the flash be effective?
    Thanks

    Flash was used Richard.

Flashing in birds or wildlife photography is normally use just to lightly "paint" the subject, just enough to light up the shadows and show some details and to also get that "catch light" the their eyes.

Reasonable distance is something that can be overcome with adjusting the intensity of the flash and with flash extenders.

In this pix the bird was actually rather near, therefore the flash was set at -2.
If you notice, most of my shots are rather "dark" compared to other birds photographers.

I am not fond of brightly lighted pixs, its so unreal.
It does not truely exhibits the birds in their "real" surrounding and lighting conditions.

Perhaps we can arrange a birding or outdoor wildlife shoot someday and share what limited knowledge I have on avian photography.

    Mervin,
I like the rather dark surrounding that your photo have. I too tend to do this when I shoot macro. If the environment is dark, I tend to shoot dark. Sometimes too dark.

Anyway, what is a flash extender?

if Photo processing can improve a shot, why not? but of course do it properly so no one will know the difference
