Based on checks and description from internet, it seems so.
Congrats on getting this "hard-to-come-by" fern.
Can PM me the contact of the fellow forumer who supplied you this fern?
Thanks,
Winston
Hi All;
Can anyone help to confirm if this plant is the Microsorum pteropus 'Philippine'?
Got it from a fellow forumer. Neither of us can actually identify it
Thanks

Desert and Cactus...
it certainly looks like microsorum pteropus 'philippine'. All the best in keeping it. mine melted sometime ago. now slowly growing back
I'm looking for this as well, for I wanted something slow-growing and can tolerate low-light.
Any idea how I get get hold of some for my new tank?
Thks for all the replies. Certainly good news for me
You can actually order the java bunch from Far East. Their supplies are from Tropica. Went there recently but was told that the latest shipment does not includes the java 'philippine'.
The previous bunch i that I ordered went well for several month until they suddenly decided melt for no reason. My other java types in the same tank (narrow, red, normal) was perfectly ok tho. Happens to me several times and the bunch doesnt come cheap

same for me
i had a thread discussing on this issue with philippine java previously
they always melt on me and i have tried them like multiple times already
I'm looking for this as well and comparing whether I should get it or narrow leaf java fern instead.. can anyone advice why does the philippine variety melt so easily?
In case, anyone wants to sell, pls let me know, I'm interested. Thanks...
For all interested, I checked with Far East that they may be bring in end of this month. BioTope will also be having them this Wednesday.
haha, I managed to get some phillipine java ferns. Also, saw some thailand java ferns at NA but the leaves are melting..
I came across this and maybe helpful to understand why it tend to melt:
"Although varying widely in appearance, most Java fern varieties are identical in their requirements. That is not the case with 'Philippine'. Although not a 'difficult' plant, it definitely does have somewhat specialized requirements. Above all else, it does not take well to especially soft and acidic water, which is not surprising, since it is often found in backish habitats in nature. If presented with unsuitable water parameters in the aquarium, it soon develops holes and blackish areas on its leaves. It almost goes without saying, then, that it does not belong with soft water plants like Tonina and Eriocaulon species. A general hardness of around 10 dGH and a pH of 6.6 and above are recommended. Because of its preferences and owing to where it is found in the wild, it would make an excellent candidate for a brackish planted aquarium."
where did you find that piece of news?
maybe that explains why as ALL my tanks are soft acidic water tanks
and to think i kept on thinking it was due to disease or poor specimens
Good info o2bubble!
Ever wonders why those java philippines from Tropica are somewhat different than those found elsewhere in local LFS? Other than the obviously 'hammered' leaves, those from Tropica are rathar lighter in colour and slimmer.
Its the same when I compared Anubias Coffefolia from Tropica with the others . They look so much nicer in term of colour & texture. But of course the Tropicas cost much higher.

Maybe tropica ones came from a different area? Or its because of the environment they kept it? Anyway, those i got from lfs are not as hammered. Not sure why.
