Never did black out before but I thing only the light is off.
If it is just BBA, just spray excell to the infected area using syringe for 2 or 3 days
hihi i'm confused about doing this blackout thing, and i have a list of question to ask so please please try your best to answer my Question. Thanks!
1. Blackout last 2 or 3 days?
2. Do i need to off everything? including my caninster filter? need air pump?
3. do i need to increase Co2 to more bubbles per seond? i thought BBA feed on excessive Co2??
4. Seriously Excel on infected leaves?

to manage algae using black out method points to serious nitrate levels in the water.
You just have to reduce lighting to 4 hours per day, then block the tank with books and such, so there is no light for the rest of the day.
I took care of most of my algae problem within a week. But the main focus is water management.
thks will try the excel method 1st, but Co2 lvl remains a mystery to me. More Co2 = less prone to algae? how can it be....
IMO what you need to do is to concentrate of your plant growth and algae will go away. It is about nutrient competition between plant and algae, so if the plant grow well it will win the competition . In other word it will absorb all of the nutrient and left nothing for algae to grow.
To make sure plant grow well, you need enough amount of CO2 and nutrients.
hihi juz an update, been spraying excel on BBA, it turns from purple to white but still seem as stubborn as ever, yamatos still not eating it. Plant growth good. guys have u all tried UV sterilizer in planted tanks? like to know how good is it up against algae...
