    Wah, fast hands, fast legs.

    Cricket: Buay sharp
Dragonfly: Buay Sharp. A tad over-exposed?
Ant: Motion blur. Will be interesting if you had used 2nd curtain sync. But, I like this background best. Too bad the stem also blur.

1/20" is a bit slow for either you or your subject to keep still isn't it? Tripod?

I suppose you are still getting used to your camera?

    Richard,

I don't have any of these!! Only managed to get 2 butterfly, 1 assassin bug and a leafhopper.

Anway, the shutter spped for the last picture was too slow, even if you used flash. The wind had caused the subject to be 'blurred'. The dragonfly seems to be slightly over exposed.

It was good fun and I haven't had that much exercise for so long. I might just be insane enough to try it again some time.

    Cheers,

    Simon,

The colors looks slightly off. Just like in the case of the Apistogramma shots. But the background is nice. Mine background was too dark.

    Jeffrey,

Most of the pictures seem to lack a critical sharpness. I thought the flash should help in 'freezing' some of the subjects.

On a separate note, the framing/cropping seems rather inconsistent, especially when presented as a series. You might want to consider a 3:2 ratio frame.

I agree with the critical sharpness. Need to practise more. well, it's my 2nd outing on insect photography, I am quite proud of it..

I never thought of presenting it in a series. But that's a good thought. What is 3:2 ratio?

Ok. Here are some of my pictures. Didn't managed to get too many as I was struggling a bit on the walk. Besides, I'm not used to shooting outdoors. Anyway, enough excuses...

This was the first subject on the talk. It's a Gram Blue butterfly. Very patient fellow as it waited for me to set up. I have another portrait version later.

I believe this should be the lawn wolf spider, but I may be wrong. Shot this off the floor and the background is terribly distracting. Would prefer a more frontal shot, but the shooting angle was a bit too challenging for me.

This should be the assassin bug. Billy and I was trying to nail this little fella, but it's really skittish and flys off in a flash. Picture is a bit 'noisy' as it was underexposed. Also, the hotspots are evident. Shame.

Another patient subject, the Yellow-veined Lancer butterfly. Practically full frame without having to crop at all. But some would prefer a leafy green background to a black one. So the next one was taken with a leaf as the background.

Given the angle, it was a bit tough to get the entire span of the wings into focus. Otherwise, it will be ideal. Anyway, I'm quite happy with the sense of depth conveyed with the currently depth of field available.

    Portrait orientation next.

Ok. Here are a few portrait presentation of the above..

Oh. This is a heavily cropped treehopper. Anyone knows the ID?

This little bee was always in the way when I was shooting the Yellow-veined Lancer. I would guess it's about 3 mm in length and it moves around too much to get a decent profile shot.

Ok guys, that's all I have. Any comments/feedback appreciated. All in all, it was an enjoyable session.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the wonderful outing. This is actually my first phototaking outing using my first digital camera and still learning how to even use the camera.

Here are some of the shots that I have taken and all are under Auto mode.

Newbie at work, all comments are highly appreciated !!

    ck, Benny,
Thanks for your comments. I was too caught in taking the shot and forgot all about the settings in my camera. Didn't realized the speed was sooo slow. I used aperture priority and forgot about the ISO and shutter speed. Will make a note to remember.

Simon, Thanks for organizing the trip. It was good fun. The walking a bit too much for some , but ok for me. Sun wasn't too hot. My main problem is the tripod, it was killing me the second half of the trip. (Must get a monopod)

Merv, Robert, Jeffery, Billy, It was great meeting you guys

Merv, you caught the lizard! Good shot. Pity the rest of us missed it.

BTW. Benny, Simon, those were great shots.

Looking forward to the next trip.

Seems you guys have a lot of fun. So many nice pictures and so many people commented. Too bad I have to pull out at the last minute. My daughter was sick and I had to stay awake until 4am to make sure her fever subsides. So end up I was feeling terrible in the morning.

Maybe this weekend, if everything is ok, I'll go to Venus Drive to make up for the trip that I didn't get to go.
