They spawn in brackish water therefore normal planted tank conditions can't archive that.

To breed malayan and yamato shrimps the only way is to haev a brackish water setup. CHan has alot of those malayan "fry" without brackish water none will survive the ordeal.

benny, u think mistaken.. only yamato spawn in brackish waters.. malayan is native to SEasia and like most shrimps (bee, tiger) they can be successfully spawn and raise in our aquarium

yup, only yamatos need brackish water to spawn. the frys will die in freshwater.

Did you guys mean that the eggs are being carried outside of their body? [:0]

I've seen something white, looking like silverfish you find in old books... are those yamato fries?

As the eggs are already laid all you have to do is wait for a male to fertilise them. You might want to add a little more protein in their diet so the female can recover from laying so many eggs...

If the eggs are fertilised you'll see little black dots forming in the centre of the egg. SO... just give them lots of cover, don't remove dead leaves as the fry'll eat those and try not to do any water changes. Malayans aren't a hard species to breed so I wouldn't worry. In face if you neglect your tank you'll find their population growing

And no, 27 - 30 degrees is actually quite warm... try for something like 24 - 26 if possible. Leave a fan blowing at the tank, that should drop the temperature by a few degrees.

Also if anyone's interested in breeding yamatos or woodshrimp go here:

It works for woodshrimp as well except from what I know, adults can't take saltwater.
