quick! prepare lots of moss for the fries.. good for food and hiding for the fries..
or else BBS or daphina are good food for them too!
Hi,
I have a 1.5x1.5x1ft tank with just 4 adults (1 male, 3 female) Clown Killies inside since 10th this month.
I had nearly wanted to tear down this tank last week to set it up as my second vivarium tank. Just before I wanted to catch out this 4 clown killies, it started to mate; and I thought well let's see if anything will comes out of it.
The male fish is really damn horny, it started mating with all 3 female one at a time, and always chasing them around even if they are not ready.
Finally, today, I found a few small fries floating around in the tank. They are really small and transparent, and really look so weak and fragile compare to baby guppies. I'm going to left them in the tank and I'm expecting to see more babies since the adults has been mating for the whole week.
The only thing that I'm worried about is that they might end up eaten by the adult parents.
I'm still unable to get good photo of the baby. Try catching it as a movie and it just look like a small dot floating in the tank...
Hopefully, I will have more things to report with positive development. Cheers!

Hi EvolutionZ, thanks.. haha... there are quite a few plants and mose in the tank and also a lot of algae too.
I'm trying to leave the tank alone as much as possible and let nature take its own course..
Hopefully, think will work out well...
The link in here has some detailed information on their spawnings, http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...62&postcount=3
If I remember correctly, the fries are so tiny they need infusoria to survive, and as they grow bigger, siblings will turn predatory towards their own.
Hi Quixotic, thanks for the link!
Guess there will be a survival of the fittest execise going on in my tank pretty soon. Nature will have a way to work it out..
Just a small update on the development.
There are at least 5 surviving babies in the tank. I have not been changing tank water since the fries appeared, with only some water topup, and the tank are now full of hair algae and duckweeds that are providing ample hiding places for the babies.
Here is a very lousy picture of one of the babies. The lighting is very bad as the plants, duckweeds and hair algae are in a big mess
and here is the ever horny papa:
I'm now starting to see the small babies fighting against each other and looks like the adult are leaving them alone for the time being. Will update with futher development as they grow bigger...
Just manage to spot 7 of them, with a few different sizes..
Here comes the small video of the babies, have fun
Merv,
Congrats, I always wanted to try to keep some, but no space, so I guess I'll just have to watch yours.
Thanks

Hi DanNiErSi,
One obvious way is to look at the caudal fin(tail). Male usually has a coloured caudal fin - yellow, blue and red horizontal stripes, while female usually has no colour on its caudal fin.
Hi DanNiErSi, good luck in your hunting!
Hi Quixotic, thanks for sharing the link. The babies are now turning into young adults and I will soon have to off load some to make way for the new born fries. It is becoming a production house for the Clown killie...
Presenting the new born Clown Killie from my production house. The mating has been an on going process, and new babies are popping up here and there everyday...
Yesterday night, just saw a few young adults male trying to mate with the older adult female...
