do keep me inform if u got new baby snails... cheers
yup keep me updated on your GH. Last i had sulawesi shrimps, my GH was about 10dkh, which was too high. They did not made it, maybe it;s also because i bought the red lines shrimps, which almost everyone have no success in keeping alive.

i do have baby snails, but they took like 4 to 5 months to be 1/3 of adult size.

Re: Sulawesi Shrimps and other fancy Indonesian shrimps

my search from those who breed successfully has even a GH of 12 or higher. They say the most important fact is water temp of 28-30 degree and ph of above 8. I have read that successful breeder has GH ranged from a low 4 to high 12, so i guess GH might not be a factor here.

going to grab a Ph test kit from C328 later, and MineralPlus to see if it help

Actually the last 4 cardinal in my tank has been survival for quite a while already. just that they are not breeding. my guess is survival of the fittest, the weak has been terminated due to poor transportation condition from Indonesia

well, i am no expert then..

anyway, taken from this link http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/khgh.html . may or may not apply to shrimps, but worth a note.
"General hardness is the more important of the two in biological
processes. When a fish or plant is said to prefer "hard" or "soft"
water, this is referring to GH. Incorrect GH will affect the transfer
of nutrients and waste products through cell membranes and can affect
egg fertility, proper functioning of internal organs such as kidneys
and growth. Within reason, most fish and plants can successfully
adapt to local GH conditions, although breeding may be impaired."

Re: Sulawesi Shrimps and other fancy Indonesian shrimps

thanks boxedfish. but i am surprise as i read there are people breeding the sulawesi shrimp from 4 to 12 GH. sort of confuse here.

anyway, i got the Ph test kit (sera brand) and tested my water to be around 8 to 8.5, sort of in between.

Also got Mosura MineralPlus and Mosura Old Sea Mud. just added to my tank. will monitor for a few days. will update if there are any findings on molting

any baby snail for adoption?? probably 1 or 2 will do. just to decorate the tank up with more life

    yup keep us updated...

snail for adoption? i afraid not. i do not have enough per type to have a sustainable population yet. Let me increase my snail headcount first..

Re: Sulawesi Shrimps and other fancy Indonesian shrimps

just rescape my tank last night. removed the drift wood. removed 2/3 coral sand/chips. Ph at around 7.5 to 8, nearer to 7.5. Got a Gh test kit and tested to be 7. been consistant last night and this morning for both reading.

got 10 more shrimp frpm C328 yesterday, but 1 did not survive. 2 are missing, probably hiding in the rocks. need to check again this evening.

for those who are looking for sulawesi snails (orange color, sorry have no time to check out the actual name for the orange color) there are 6 or 8 left in C328 when i left last evening at 10pm. took 2 and saw another customer took 2

added in air pump, but i think the air is too strong. might need to buy a switch to control it smaller

Re: Sulawesi Shrimps and other fancy Indonesian shrimps

Anyway, less people know the location is better for species there. I would rather the price of the shrimps be higher, so that the collectors will be happy with the earning and catch less causing less damage.

Sad to see the size of C. spongicola is getting smaller over the batches coming to Singapore, what that can mean is the large size has already been depleted. Previously, there were so many Caridinal (Germany way of calling, here I think is call Blue something), but now the importor said they are not able to catch in large number.

Anyway, there are lot of other cheaper shrimp species around one can afford to keep, making a trip there to catch free shrimps is uncalled for and I do not think it can be any cheaper. And it wont be a trip like going to our reservoir to catch tiger barbs.

I thought if price of shrimp higher, more people will want to go catch them in bulk.
They will not even care for the well being of the shrimps but for their pockets.

To all the Sulawesi shrimp enthusiasts,

I am interested in Sulawesi shrimp setup. Would you be kind enough to share with us your experience. Also if you have a breeding colony, may be you can put up to offload to
    members of AQ.

    Cheers

    hello,
good setting, good temperature and especially a good diet ...
According to Indonesian farmers they say the secret and the food.

Me and my concern is what worries scientists is also the reduction of phytoplankton in the lake.
The passion of fishkeeper is good, but if we do nothing to preserve habitats in a few years all these habitats have disappeared.
