The frequency depends on the type of flora and number of fauna you have. Is it high bioload? Amount can be about 1/3 cap.
I dose mine every 2 days during photo period.

i dose my 1.5ft shrimp and moss tank daily, but a few drops only.
On the bottle there is some instruction right? maybe you can take it as a rough guide.
just to add on to the question, if no CO2 input, does it mean I increase the dosage as compared to the instructions on the bottle
Well, instructions are on the bottle and I would suggest to actually really read them carefully.
No, Seachem Excel is meant as an alternative substitute for CO2 injection. So the answer is obvious, even if you are not injecting CO2, follow the instructions, DO NOT OVERDOSE!
yes dont overdose. i actually thought that adding on top of my co2 would be better, you know some chemicals that do not harm the fish if overdosed... then the next day algae bloom and few fishes died did a 50% water change, scrubbed the algae and much better now.
lesson learnt...
If your tank is like mine, just a planted tank, a couple of drops for a 9Litres tank should be fine as overdose of sechem usually treats algae. However when i used to have shrimps, 2 drops into the same tank volume, the shrimps broke down and died.
I feel that if your tank is for shrimps.. and there is shimplets, it is better not to dose.. because 1 month back, i dose 2 drops of it into my 1.5ft shrimp tank.. and the next few day i found alot of my shrimplets MIA.. so i think that the doseing kill them.. it onli two weeks ago that i can see new born shimplets again..
but if dose Excel would have aglae problem right ?
thats if you over dose..
I think excel will help to prevent algae
I usually overdose excel at night, and during wc where i siphon to about 40% of the water and let it sit for 15mins. It help reduced algae, but remember its only reduce, so it has still came back when my nitrates went out of whack.
