when you switch on the lights, the transition from darkness to light probably shocks/scares them and thus their colouration fades. after awhile when they're not scared anymore the colour comes back
Does anyone know why my tetras; cardinals& rummy noses & some other fishes (not my platy & swordtails though) have faded colours after a long time in the darkness? Usually when I swtiched on my PL light at night (off during the day) they are faded but after a while the colours came & they look beautiful again! Why do they have to spend time in the light to have bright colours or are they scared when its dark!!!!???

is it? but I don't think so as i sometimes look at them before turning the lights on, they are faded...the rummy nose is not sooo red, the cardinals are not attractive at all...
I was wondering if its their defence in the dark since they are colourful, they maybe easy target in darkness...maybe
