    Hi

Just want to hear out what do most people do to their over sized SAE.

Mine has grown abt an inch when I bought to abt 2.5-3 inch. Luckily I only have 3.

Mine ended up in my workshop community tank.

Have 1 oversized SAE in my planted tank. Does nothing but ea bloodworms, but I'll juz let it be since it's only one. Have another 2 juveniles inside. Do not dare to get more.
    Cheers!!

I have an SAE about 4 inch at least. They swim quite beautifully when they are big and have big space.

Since we're on the topic of SAEs. I have two that are about 1 and a half inch. When I put my arms in the tank for some planting, both SAEs start to nibble on the hairs on my arms, perhaps they think it's BBA []

Ok, I'll admit it, my arms are kind of hairy....but this happend to anyone of you?

    No jacian

    to eat algae !

i have a few tanks that need algae eaters..
these tanks are all with dig-proof plants (eg nana and ferns) the SAE will be at home in these ugly planteds

the fish inside will eat up otos and shrimps
but those too big to be eaten will be left alone

    LSZ,

I dont think that the SAEs will be of much help to you when they grow big man, it seems that they will just lose their interest in eating algae when they grow big. Think there should be other methods which you could employ to reduce the alage...

maverick, u are rigth!!!! Previously I have 2 SAE that grew up to 6" long!!!! They start fighting for food with the rest of the fish rather than having their normal diet. They even attack those small tetra such as cardinal and rummy nose. I got fedup with them and throw them into Jurong East Canal.
I have 2 more SAE growing to a size of 4" and they seem to be very restless. Always disturbing my plecos. I am thinking of the same way.

no problem with all those that can give to me also.... it is still within my capacity to house them if it can save you ppl some headache.

if they dont eat algae they can also forage for smaller food pieces in hard-to-reach places.

ok simon i take from you

I'd like to see my 8 SAE's fight for food with my Arowana... LOL.

Actually they do come up to nibble his market prawns from my hand, when he's far away, but they scatter like bats from hell the minute he comes within striking range.

Actually I think because of this, you would have to seriously consider your tank size before buying the SAEs.
I would think for 2 feet tanks, not more than 2.

You would also have to consider the type of plants that you are going to have. If you are planting the delicate types, then SAEs are not recommended.
Algaes should be controlled using nutrient balancing rather than having a massive algae eating crew.

I'll put up my SAEs for adoption when I redo my tank. Even though they have grown to abt 2.5". But they still eat algaes.

I think it depends if there are excess food available. The SAEs in the aro planted tank at Pet Safari are 4-5" big and all of them are foraging among the plants for algae.

I know that Pet safari feeds pellets to their aros, so I suppose that after feeding, the SAEs feed on the bits that the messy aro gives up from chewing the pellets. With so little other food for diet, they have to stick to eating algae.

This happens in my aro planted tank as well.

Currently, I'm using SAEs and Clown loaches to eat food that the aro misses.
