turn on ST-E2, set 550EX to slave mode. make sure "channels" is the same on both the ST-E2 and the 550EX. that's it!
the other things like high-speed sync etc are not critical to it working. ratio only applies if you have more than one speedlite.
I just bought ST-E2 and 550EX. Thinking to take photo of my 2ftx1ftx1ft tank but do not know how to set ST-E2 and 550EX. Need advice on how to setup both ST-E2 and 550EX. By the way I only have one flash and I make DIY flash box.
Do I need to set it in the first place? or just leave every thing to auto? REad the manual but can't really gasp the intruction. Should I use the build in wide panel flip down cover? Should I use the high-speed sync function? What is that ratio on ST-E2 for?
So many possible combination setting headache. Any recomendation setting to help me start? Thanks

oh ok.. that simple huh. Will try it out.
you can press the test button on the ST-E2 (while standalone) and see if the speedlite is triggered.

yeah try that one before, no problem in triggering 550EX
