I'm toying with the idea of organising a car boot sale for aquatic stuff.

Many of us accumulate many aquarium items over time and are often too lazy or find it too troublesome to sell or give them away. So I figure an organised spring cleaning event could help us settle this at least once a year.

    The basic idea:
    - Load the stuff into your car boot, or a friends' car boot.
    - Drive to and congregate at a set place (public carpark) and time (weekend daytime) for a few hours.
    - Open up the boots, let people browse and get stuff off you.
    - You may choose to sell, barter or giveaway the stuff.
    - Only second hand goods.
    - Only aquarium related goods.
    - No livestock.
    - Plants allowed.

Non-drivers can also come to browse or even sell/barter/give away, but they need to borrow space from other members cars.

It has to be near an MRT station for non-drivers' convenience.

    So please vote.

    Comments and suggestions are welcomed.

    An excellent idea.
If the event works out I can almost see it becoming an annual or bi-annual event.
Student this may be agood time to pick-up stuff on the cheap or free.
To the "old birds", no more aeroplanes or nonsense buyers!

Livestock might not survive? Perhaps only if it's a pre-arranged transaction.

You're not thinking of bringing bags/pails/etc of your livestock, are you?

Good idea! Plants will be a good idea too, so that there will be less wastage on pruned plants, and also generate more interest and exposure towards more plant species among the members.

Sounds refreshing. Probably can include certain livestocks like the anabantoids, which can survive longer with atmospheric air.

I think this is a great idea!

It could be a interesting mini event in itself like a niche bazaar. Personally I don't think there should be any problem with bringing livestock if packaged properly.

Example you can put CRS in bottles, fish in plastic containers, it's always much more interesting where there're live animals around. My 2 cents worth.

Nice Idea. I think location wise, maybe we can choose somewhere more remote such that we are assured of parking lots near each other to facilitate browsing. Maybe if one of the plant or fish farms allow, AND have a big parking space, we can hold it there, and go shopping in the farm together after that. Hopefully I will be back in Singapore in time for this event.

Actually, we want it to be near an MRT station so that it's easier for non-drivers to turn up. Then it can be a bigger event.

We're polling for interest. If there is enough interest then we do it. Else no point.

I think for it to work, we need about 10 to 15 sellers and about twice the same amount of buyers.

Ideally, the location should be somewhere accessible (i.e. near MRT) for non drivers as pointed out by Vinz. In fact, if it's at a shady carpark near some coffeeshop/makan place it will be cool. And if there are LFS near by, it will be perfect.

Even those not selling/buying things can come hang out and chat wth their friends.

As for timing, I thought this should only be a 2 to 3 hour affair. No need to be anything longer than that. Items to be sold can be listed in our marketplace first, if necessary with photos, so as to give buyers a preview and the correct expectations.

    Cheers,

I think this is a good idea. I don't have a car so i can only make it if its near an mrt station. Hope I'll be free on that day.

Great idea but maybe suitable for selling more portable items for sellers without vehicles.

Or arrange for a driving member who lives nearby to help out.

The carpark area after you walk out of Clementi MRT station (on the way to C32 is perfect.

Yes we can do it at carpark beside Clementi MRT. There are plenty of shades.Like what benny say we can hangout or dip kopi/tea at cl328 coffeeshop after 2-3hrs.

I got some of DIY remote lighting system(controller) for all size tubes and MH of 150w to sell, too. Too lazy to post at marketplace.

    agree?
    cheers
