    Hi folks

i understand that there isn't a 1 feet HO T5 light set available for aquarium use in the market althought there are 1 feet T5 tubes around. Just wondering if anyone does DIY for 1 feet T5? Or does anyone knows any shops or anyone that diy? I'm interested in getting some.

To DIY, you have to ensure that there are:

    1) 1 feet reflector
    2) 1 feet T5HO tube (I'm not aware there is any of this length)
    3) e-ballast that support item 2.

By the way, do you really need T5HO tubes for a 1 feet tank? IMO, PL tubes can also do a good job here.
    Cheers,
    U.K.Lau

These are sold in HomeFIX as Cabinet lamps. T5 with electronic ballast. The 31cm version is about 10 bucks if I remember correctly. Profile is very small and neat. Comes with tube to tube extension wire to daisy chain them if you need to run more than 1 tube. Just need to DIY a housing.

going by the wattage, they aren't high output t5s. a 2ft HO should be 24W (not 13W as listed here) and a 3ft HO should be 39W (not 21W for >3ft as shown here). in fact, it seems to me that these bulbs are even less efficient than t8 FL bulbs

Yes, all are Normal Output. Why is it less efficient than T8 tubes?

Isn't lighting efficiency measured in lumens/watt?

The power rating like 20W is the input to the ballast. It just tells you how much power the light is using.

I may be wrong, but a 20W T8 may not produce as much lumens as a 18W T5.
