    Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you have kept glass catfish before? Specifically the Kryptopterus bicirrhis... my wife is really keen on buying them. I've done a bit of reading and it seems like a safe enough buy for a tank full of cardinals, gouramis, SAE, Otos, and lots and lots of shrimp... but I thought I'd ask around just to be safe.

Yes, you can put glass catfish with other small fishes cos they dun seem to be interested in small fishes. However, pls don't put them in with tiny shrimps cos they tend to bite them for food. I saw one of my glass catfish attack a poor shrimp during feeding time. Luckily, the shrimp managed to escape but I think the little fellow's fate is sealed. Later after a week, becos of bad water condition, 1 of the catfish died n the next 1 follwed suit the week after. I think you need to get more than 2 of them cos they are also community fishes. With only one, it's very hard for them to survive.

I used to kept 3 of them with rummy nose and neons etc, but later gave them away. They are peacful and usually stay in vegetation. Can try to keep them in bigger group to see them swimming around confidently.

glass cats are schooling fish and rather shy as well. u can keep them in a community tank but they don't do well with more active fishes. they will tend to get weaker and perhaps die off if kept alone. and another factor, they get a tad bit bigger than usual. anyway thats what i read up so hopefully it's correct.
