if the unit is damaged, I suggest you do not buy, Canon is almost certain not to be able to find parts. They were able to replace my rubber zoom ring luckily. I think they are even reluctant to open it for calibration.

wonder how they managed to crack the front. this thing is built like a tank.

yeah I think it spent 16 years in a dry box until I bought it. that's probably why the zoom ring became detached due to the humidity. and the lens elements are still squeaky clean! the best part, I paid like $900 including a vintage B+W UV filter.
