    Hi folks,

Came across a pretty algae eater that looks like a small ray. Costs about $2.50. Any comment about this fish and if it is suitable for community tank ? Thks.

Are you referring to a hillstream loach?

yeah, I've tried those before, they are fairly fascinating because they can change color according to the surface they are on, however, I suspect my water conditions are wrong for it, cos within a few days these guys will die.
    (tried 3 long time ago)

Yes. Very close. Although the one I saw is less vibrant in colour. And the tank labelled it as Borneo sucker. Could be a close relative if not the same species.

I understand that they prefer cooler water with some current. This is becos in their natural habitat (hill stream), the water are generally cooler and fast flowing.

generally they call all pseduogastromyzon spp. borneo suckers, but only the p. borneensis comes from borneo
i suspect they're starving to death

Didn't last long in my tank and did nothing for my algae either.
    Cheers!!
