I think it's got something to do with sudden changes in water parameters. Crypts are famous for melting into nothing overnight. Rotala Macranda and Nymphaea sometimes will disintegrate into nothingness too. Hornwort will melt too if you put them into new water. It could be temperature but I'm not sure.

hrmm.. something to ponder about. it's really a pain when u see some expensive plants turn into dead decaying stalks.

Is it true that if you have rotting crypts, its best to just leave them alone, and they will eventually come good? Provided you have the usual TLC of lights, CO2 and fert.

As mentioned by Timebomb, plants like crypts simply juz melts when the environment changes. Normally if left alone they will juz grow themselves new leaves when/if they adapt to the new condition.

Try not to cause Crypts to melt, cos they take a heck of a long time to grow back nicely again... []

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

My hornwart melted after i dropped it in the new tank. I didn't bother to remove it coz i was busy. then i found that they were growing new leaves from the bare branches. I was quite moved. the wonder of nature.

so... leave them alone if they have melted. they may grow back. but if you see rotting stems, then trash

    Vinz,
Quite impossible to prevent it.... anyway, it's not really difficult to start growing nicely again after it melt or at least mine doesn't.

Yeah, but try to avoid doing things that will make them melt. It's easy to grow back, but still takes hell of a long time, relatively at least.

Even if you leave the plants in the tank to regrow, make sure you remove or snip off any dead/rotting leaves ASAP.
