    Hi people,

bought some corydoras from a farm in LCK and, like most people here, I didn't quarantine them. Now I realised that some of them are infected with external parasites that looks like small white worms on its tail fins and body. quite gross.

    ??Anchor worms??

I know there are quite a few anti-parasite medications out there, but I would like to know which ones are safe with cory... I mean those tried-and-tested to work with cories.

    Thanks in advance.

    Alan, thanks for your reply.
I bet the response will be better if I say "free plants/fish"

But anyway, here's what I did...

Sympotoms: white wriggling worms, 1-2mm long, on the fins of corydoras (namely C. panda, C. sterbai, C. vene.., C. triline...) Most are still active and seems unaffected by the parasite, but C. panda looks a little dull.

    Procedure:
    1) Net the infected fish out. (hard work, tore down the tank to do that)
    2) Dilute formalin (37%) to 150ppm in 2 litres of water in a small pail.
    3) vigorously areate the water in the pail.
    4) Add the fish.
    5) Treat for 20minutes. Stop if fish darting, distress, fast breathing.
    6) Remove fish and recover the fish in fresh water with aeration.

    Results
Worms are gone instantly! Quite amazing. and the corydoras are fine. No losses (yet). The protocol I followed warns that the fish should not be treated for more than 60 minutes, and that invertebrates (shrimps, snails) are likely to be affected. which was why this was not done in the main tank.
I understand that formalin is present in my commercially available anti-parasite treatments... but it just gives me peace of mind to know the exact dosage.

    YMMV.

*Note: Formalin is a dangerous chemical.
